Since 1989 the Boatmen have recorded three albums, You and Your Sister 1989, Please Panic 1992, and Opposite Sex 1995, the last of which was released by Warner Bros EastWest in the UK and Europe, but was never released in the US. In 2003, the band issued a compilation album on CD, Wide Awake. The Song of the Volga Boatmen is a well-known traditional Russian song collected by Mily Balakirev, and published in his book of folk songs in 1866. It was sung by burlaks, or barge-haulers, on the Volga River. Balakirev published it with only one verse the first. The other two verses were added at a later date.
