Some bands have the ability to peel back the layers and define the essence of all that’s gone befor them. Such is the case with The Vacant Lots and their brilliant, slow driving, neo-psychedelic, highway hypnotic single “Cadillac,” which has just been release on 7 inch vinyl. I had the pleasure of having dinner with them prior to their show at Kung Fu Necktie, in Philadelphia, where we discussed the bands minimalist take on members, notes, and what it takes to stay on the road. The flip side, “Confusion,” is washed and layered with punctuations that will harken back to The Velvet Underground, Spacemen 3, and Spiritualized ... splendidly laid out without sounding beholding or derivative. If you consider yourself a fan of early or current psychedelic music, The Vacant Lots are not to me missed on any count. The Lots are ominous without sounding menacing, splendidly dark, yet with a smile on their faces, and deep enough to lose yourself in without drowning.
