Let It Be is the third studio album by American rock band The Replacements. It was released on October 2, 1984 by TwinTone Records. A post-punk album with coming-of-age themes, Let It Be was recorded by the band after they had grown tired of playing loud and fast exclusively as on their 1983 Hootenanny album the group decided to write songs that were, according to vocalist Paul Westerberg, a little more sincere. Antagonized by the constraints of the more traditional punk rock theyd been playing on their first two records, the band had been acting out against the punk establishment. So, with Let It Be, the band decided to rebel against punk and try to form a new sound for themselves. The Replacements last album for TwinTone before signing with Sire, 1984's Let It Be is widely hailed as not just one of the group's career best, but also as an across the boards alt-rock masterpiece. The Replacements were and always will be the greatest rock band to me. To really understand them is to understand the flaws in every human being. They were not perfect and they were not trying to be perfect.
