Jazz at Massey Hall - The Quintet. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей коллекцией. Jazz at Massey Hall is a live jazz album featuring a performance by The Quintet given on 15 May 1953 at Massey Hall in Toronto. The quintet was composed of five leading 'modern' players of the day: Dizzy Gillespie, Charlie Parker, Bud Powell, Charles Mingus, and Max Roach. It was the only time that the five men recorded together as a unit, and it was the last recorded meeting of Parker and Gillespie. Tracklist: Perdido Juan Tizol, Hans Lengfelder, Ervin M. This concert was held at Massey Hall in Toronto, Canada on May 15, 1953, and was recorded by bassist Charles Mingus, who overdubbed some additional bass parts and issued it on his own Debut label as the Quintet's Jazz at Massey Hall. Compositionally, Jazz at Massey Hall leans heavily on the bebop book developed by Gillespie, and includes Salt Peanuts, Wee, and A Night in Tunisia. Also featured are Tadd Dameron's Hot House, the Ellington standard Perdido, and All the Things You Are. Initially released on Debut Records, a label co-owned by Mingus and Roach, the sound quality is certainly of the time, but has benefited over the years from digital technology. This album is great fun, and sounds pretty decent considering the technology for live recording available at the time. The interaction between the players is fun and the performance comes to life on this record. I enjoy it quite a bit. Listen free to The Quintet Jazz at Massey Hall Wee, Hot House and more.
