Short intro
Ghost in the Machine is the fourth studio album by English rock band The Police. The album was originally released on LP and cassettes on 2 October 1981 by A&M. The songs were recorded between January and September 1981 during sessions that took place at AIR Studios in Montserrat and Le Studio in Quebec, assisted by record producer Hugh Padgham. The album reached No. 1 on the UK Albums Chart and No. 2 on the US Billboard 200. The band released three successful singles from the album: Every Little. Although many Police fans consider 1983's 'Synchronicity' album to be the band's finest album, a significant number of others believe that it was 1981's 'Ghost In The Machine' that is the more satisfying. After three albums recorded in either the egg-box covered walls of Surrey Sound Studios or amidst the persistent rain of Holland, the band transported themselves to the idyllic surroundings of the Caribbean, and to Air Studios on the island of Montserrat. The album saw a number of key changes from their past - they dropped the silly album titles and seemed t. Songs in album The Police - Ghost In The Machine 1981. 323. Ghost In The Machine was The Polices fourth studio album, released in late 1981 to international success. It was a top 5 album in ten countries and spawned three silver-certified singles in the UK, two of which also reached the top 20 in the US. The albums title is a phrase originally coined by British philosopher Gilbert Ryle to express the concept that the mind and body are separate entities, with thought and mind being of a non-physical substance. The Polices multi-platinum-selling third album, Zenyatta Mondatta, stayed on the US Billboard 200 for almost three years and included Dont Stand So Close To Me: not only the bands third British No. 1 hit, but also the UKs biggest-selling single of 1980. A phenomenal success by anyones standards, the record set Sting, Andy Summers and Stewart Copeland on course for its follow-up, Ghost In The Machine, and the global superstardom theyd attain when their fifth LP, Synchronicity, was released in June 1983. By comparison, The Police had the relative luxury of six months to nail the songs for their fourth LP, Ghost In The Machine, released on 2 October 1981. For their fourth album, 1981's Ghost in the Machine, the Police had streamlined their sound to focus more on their pop side and less on their trademark reggae-rock. Their jazz influence had become more prominent, as evidenced by the appearance of saxophones on several tracks. The production has more of a contemporary '80s sound to it courtesy of Hugh Padgham, who took over for Nigel Gray, and Sting proved once and for all to be a master of the pop songwriting format. Ghost in the Machine is the fourth album by The Police, released in 1981. Much of the material in this album was inspired by Arthur Koestler's The Ghost in the Machine, which also donated the title. The cover art for Ghost in the Machine features an LED-inspired graphic that depicts the heads of the three band members each with a distinctive hair style from left to right, Andy Summers, Sting with spiky hair, and Stewart Copeland with a fringe the band was unable to decide on a photograph to use for the cover. The album's cover is ranked at number 45 on VH1's 50 Gre read more. Like every Police album, Ghost in the Machine contains a timeless anthem, and the gorgeous verses combined with the Lets go to Jamaica right now and party chorus mood of Every Little Thing She Does is Magic ensure the dynamics of this streak will continue. While the overall musicianship of the record may not match the virtuosity of past glories, the final verdict on Ghost in the Machine finds the Police continuing to evolve as songwriters.
