This album, arranged by Nelson Riddle, features a few re-recordings of songs that were associated with Cole such as Route 66 and Sweet Lorraine. After Midnight also introduced several new songs for Cole as well. The tracks featured in this album were quite favorable, making the album peak at 16 on the Billboard charts. Born into a musical family, young Nat Coles later changed to Cole recorded with his older brother, Edward, in 1936 for the Decca label. The four sides cut by Eddie Cole's Solid Swingers gave the general public its first glimpse of Nat's gentle yet lively piano riffs. Once Nat King Cole gave up playing piano on a regular basis and instead focused on a series of easy listening vocal albums, jazz fans longed for him to return to his first love. These 1956 studio sessions made up Cole's last jazz-oriented disc, where he played piano and sang on every number, joined by several guest soloists. Cole's vocals are impeccable and swinging, while his piano alternates between providing subdued backgrounds and light solos that don't reveal his true potential on the instrument.
