Short intro

Pool It is the tenth studio album by the Monkees, issued by Rhino Records in 1987. It was the first Monkees studio album of new material since Changes in 1970 and the first Monkees album to feature Peter Tork since the 1968 Head soundtrack. While Micky Dolenz, Davy Jones and Peter Tork had reunited the previous year for a 20th anniversary tour, with Micky and Peter contributing vocals to three tracks for the 1986 compilation album Then & Now. Follow Us: . For the most part, this was true but then they dropped Pool It and it was a bit like watching a prized race horse's legs give midway through a race. Unquestionably their worst output of all time, Pool It was an obvious attempt to cash in on the revitalized success of the group, which falls flat within 30 seconds of the album's solitary notable song Heart and Soul. I love the Monkees but this is by far their worst record. The songs are very weak compared to the Boyce-Hart / Goffin-King compositions of the 1960's and the arrangements make them sound as bad 1980's synth pop. Might be OK if you like bands like A-ha but that's not what Monkees fans would expect.
