THIS pressing contains the original mono LP mix of "Love Is Only Sleeping" (but with the channels reversed). The first pressing listed above contains the original stereo LP mix.

The sleeve and label are the same for both the 1984 & 1986 releases with only an "RE-1" etched in the run-off groove denoting the 1986 update. Correction: The label of the initial release has the date "1984" at the beginning of the rim text at the bottom of the label. This (re-issue) version omits the date from the rim text.

The Monkees is the first album by the band the Monkees. It was released in October 1966 by Colgems Records in the United States and RCA Victor in the rest of the world. It was the first of four consecutive U. number one albums for the group, taking the top spot on the Billboard 200 for 13 weeks, after which it was displaced by the band's second album. It also topped the UK charts in 1967. The Monkees has been certified quintuple platinum by the RIAA, with sales of over five million copies. Labeled as the Best of the Monkees, Volume Four as it followed the two Arista Records compilations Greatest Hits and More Greatest Hits and the Rhino Records picture disc Monkee Business, the album featured an all-stereo selection of single sides and album tracks, including several songs featured in the Monkees TV series. Monkee Flips went out of print as Rhino shifted from vinyl releases to compact discs. The Monkees is the eponymous first album of The Monkees, released in September 1966 by Colgems Records as COM-101 mono and COS-101 stereo. It was the first album released by Colgems. Tommy Boyce, Bobby Hart, Jack Keller, and Michael Nesmith produced the songs that appear on the album.
