Short intro

Two-Fisted Tales is the third studio album by American band the Long Ryders, released in 1987 by Island Records. It was their last studio album for 32 years until 2019's Psychedelic Country Soul. The album yielded two singles, a cover of NRBQs I Want You Bad and Gunslinger Man. On Two-Fisted Tales, the Long Ryders moved further away from their country rock origins towards a more college rock direction. This, Two Fisted Tales, the last album by the Long Ryders, pulls together all the various elements that had distinguished them from the rest of the jangly, '60s revisionist rock bands of the mid-'80s. The Long Ryders' sound was a unique blending of McGuinn-esque guitar figures with well-defined parameters that encompassed Gram Parsons' country-rock sensibilities and the various tenants of traditional roots rock. Highlights include the kickoff track, Gunslinger Man, a powerful guitar assault that displays the band's ability to rock strong and hard. Two-Fisted Tales is an anthology war comic published bi-monthly by EC Comics in the early 1950s. The title originated in 1950 when Harvey Kurtzman suggested to William Gaines that they publish an adventure comic. The title was a companion comic to Frontline Combat, and stories Kurtzman wrote for both books often displayed an anti-war attitude. It returned to adventure-themed. The Long Ryders re-release their second and third albums in 3-CD box sets with extra discs of unreleased demos and live concerts. Two-Fisted Tales also includes an album of demos and a live set this time from Palm Springs with sleeve notes by Sid Griffin that explain in detail why the band came to an end after this, their record company Island having given less than whole-hearted support, having just sacked their A&R man, and appointed a press officer who openly hated. the record, while label supremo Chris Blackwell was far from enthusiastic about the new songs himself, despite inviting them to his home in the Bahamas.
