Short intro

Chill Out is the third studio album by British electronic music group The KLF, released on 5 February 1990. It is one of the earliest ambient house concept albums, portraying a mythical night-time journey throughout the U. Gulf Coast states, beginning in Texas and ending in Louisiana. Chill Out was conceived as a continuous piece of music, with original KLF music interwoven with samples from songs by Elvis Presley, Fleetwood Mac, Acker Bilk, Van Halen, 808 State and field recordings of Tuvan throat. Released in 1990, Chill Out was The KLF's first full-length album and the record which would go on to coin the phrase 'ambient house'. In Febuary 1990 The KLF released their concept album Chill Out, coining the phrase ambient house with their downtempo soundtrack for a fictional roadtrip along the southern border of America. Recording Process. As so often with The KLF, the basic idea came to them not as the result of meticulous research but from a happy accident in their studio instead. We did a mix of a House track, left the drums off by mistake and suddenly realised that the House pads and chords sounded brilliant without the beat. Chill Out isnt available on any streaming service except YouTube, and you cant purchase a download of it. The KLF took their album off the market, along with the rest of their back catalog, when they called it quits in 1992, yet another immolation of sorts. But it feels fitting that this definitive album from the most lawless of groups wouldnt circulate within established channels. Whatever copyright law might have to say about it, Chill Out is an idea that cant be stopped. The KLF - Chill Out. Chill Out, first released in February 1990, is an unequivocal masterpiece, a comedown companion only matched-and even then only just-by Brian Eno's Ambient 4: On Land. The KLF record is a truncated musical interpretation of a literal, physical journey through the Gulf Coast of the United States, a stargazing territorial essay that takes in Elvis Presley, Aker Bilk, Tuvan throat singers, a Radio 1 rock show jingle, dialogue from long-forgotten 50s sci-fi flick The Brain from Planet Arous, and Fleetwood Mac. You're whisked away from reality into a semi-recognizable dreamscape, a place where the liminality has quietly, subtly, taken control. Genre: Ambient. The basic concept behind Chill Out is that it's meant to document a train ride through the southern United States, beginning in the middle of the night and ending at dawn. It's essentially a 45 minute ambient. read more
