Short intro

Arthur Or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire, often referred to as just Arthur, is the seventh studio album by English rock band the Kinks, released in October 1969. Kinks frontman Ray Davies constructed the concept album as the soundtrack to a Granada Television play and developed the storyline with novelist Julian Mitchell the television programme was never produced. The rough plot revolved around Arthur Morgan, a carpet-layer, who was based on Ray and guitarist Dave Davies' brother-in. Arthur or the Decline and Fall of the British Empire - The Kinks. The music makes the words cut deeper, and the songs never stray too far from the album's subject, making Arthur one of the most effective concept albums in rock history, as well as one of the best and most influential British pop records of its era. The Kinks - Young And Innocent Days. The Kinks - Arthur. Arthur is a concept album released by the Kinks in 1969. Throughout the album, we learn about protagonist Arthur Morgan and his family, such as his wife and his son, Derek, who moves to Australia with his wife and family. His other son, Eddie, and Arthurs brother of the same name who both died in separate wars are also mentioned. Other than the protagonist and his family, the album also touches on various conflicts and events in England and war. The story is loosely based off of various events in England and Ray Davies' own experiences in life. CD 4 offers a collection of demos, rehearsals, theatrical versions and remixes. In total there are 81 tracks five previously unreleased and 28 previously unreleased versions. Arthur has the same guts as the Bands new album, that same reach back into the past, the same sense of age - like the Band, the Kinks can play the role of man near the end of his life when they themselves are merely in their twenties. Arthur is more fun, more cutting, and in the end simply hilarious because whatever England was, it isnt any more, and the Kinks are set free of all responsibilities. Christine Keeler died for their sins. The Kinks are fun. Ray belts out Victoria, and manages to sound pompous and fat - just like the girl herself - while doing so. The band drops off all restrai. On this album the Kinks were about as good as the Beatles, and definitely as good as the Who. It may be the only classic rock album out there that has the distinction of being the score to a musical that never got made. This always felt like the last great Kinks album ,and pretty much the end of that run of hit singles they had mid to late '60's Sadly their albums never sold well at the time. This one has a concept running thru it , but the songs are strong and it holds together well. A fine album. Album 1969 42 Songs. Come Dancing With the Kinks: The Best of the Kinks 1977-1986.
