Short intro
In the City is the debut studio album by British mod revival band the Jam. Released in 1977 upon Polydor Records, the album reached No. 20 in the UK Albums Chart. The album features the band's debut single and title track In the City. In addition, the album includes two cover versions, Slow Down and the theme to the 1960s television series, Batman, the latter of which had also been previously covered by The Who, The Kinks and Link Wray. On their debut, the Jam offered a good balance between the forward-looking, destroy everything aggression of punk with a certain reverence for '60s beat and R&B. In an era that preached attitude over musicianship, the Jam bettered the competition with good pop sense, strong melodies, and plenty of hooks that compromised none of punk's ideals or energy, plus youth. culture themes and an abrasive, ferocious attack. Текст песни: In the city theres a thousand things I want to say to you But whenever I approach you You make me look a fool I wanna say. In the city theres a thousand things I want to say to you But whenever I approach you You make me look a fool I wanna say. In the city theres a thousand things I want to say to you But whenever I approach you You make me look a fool I wanna say I wanna tell you About the young ideas But you turn them into fears In the city theres a thousand faces all shining bright And those golden faces are under 25 They wanna say. The first album by the Jam is fantastic. A combination of mod and punk that was classic. The album is stronger than the second as far as their mod punk efforts go they got a little more cerebral in their later efforts as in less punk more rock, but not by much. The classic major to minor James Brown Shout and Shimmy chord combo on the rocker I Got By In Time is one of my favorites. Read more. Though The Jam were really the only band that could best The Clash on their home turf, America never really fell in love with them. And for good reason: most Americans can't relate to the stridently Anglophilic lyrics and curious soul throwback sound.
