Short intro

The Invisible is the debut album by The Invisible, released on March 9, 2009, on Matthew Herbert's label, Accidental Records in the UK. The album itself was released on 9 March 2009 and was produced by Matthew Herbert. London based singer Eska features as backing vocalist for all tracks apart from In Retrograde, London Girl and Spiral. The album was nominated for the 2009 Mercury Music Prize. Throughout, the band reveal their rich creativity and musicianship. Echoes run through these songs of African music including beautifully-woven-in samples of the singers from Okumu's mother's funeral, psalm tones and devotional music, In A Silent Way-era Miles Davis, hints of minimal classical composers such as Ste. Following their 2009 Mercury nominated debut, The Invisible make a welcome return with their introspective follow-up Rispah, dedicated to lead singer Dave Okumus late mother. The three-piece supported each others musical projects for years before coming together as The Invisible, combining synthesized beats with an experimental rock edge on their self-titled debut that has earned them comparisons with contemporaries Wild Beasts and Bon Iver. While writing the second album Okumus mother, who is also the inspiration for the album's name, passed away. This led Okumu to write a love lette. Rispah is named after Okumus mother, who passed away during its writing. It is, palpably, a collection affected by loss vocals float ghostly in the mix, ethereal atmospheres draped over tender arrangements performed with bewitching poise. This is every second the sound of progress, comparable to Wild Beasts discernable development from Limbo, Panto to Two Dancers. And it deserves comparable levels of critical acclaim.
