The Hafler Trio is a conceptual, performance and sound art collaborative between Andrew M. McKenzie, the only permanent member, and guest sound artists, performers, andor musicians. The project has seen the release of numerous albums and CDs in experimental musical styles ranging from electronic, cut-up, ambient, environmental soundscape, musique concrète, electro-acoustic, and audio-montage as cinema for the ears from 1982 to present, each of which use graphic design and text for contextual. The Hafler Trio album Intoutof pronounced into out of was originally released in 1985 on vinyl. The master tapes were too long for the capabilities of the equipment, so the original solution was to run the tapes at a slightly faster rate to compensate. When the material was reissued on CD in 1990, the original tape speed was restored. Despite this modification, the release still has the feel of an LP, with the two long pieces representing each side of the album, not subdivided into tracks, even though each listed piece is clearly distinguishable from the others. Hafler Trio Format: Audio CD. This album is not for those of a sensitive nature. Dark and disturbing, it is frankly an extremely difficult listen. While listening on headphones, I made the mistake of falling asleep towards the end of the first track. The violent attack on the senses that begins the second track, followed by a descent into the darkest depths made me feel as if I was descending into hell. I guess that's the whole idea of this album. Don't play it to your mum However, played at lower levels though speakers, it doesn't have quite the same shock value and is a bit more easily listenable.
