Short intro
Dizzy Up the Girl is the sixth studio album by American rock band the Goo Goo Dolls, released on September 22, 1998 through Warner Bros. The album is often noted for being the album which propelled the Goo Goo Dolls into success, although they already enjoyed some recognition with the downbeat track Name in 1995. Dizzy features more upbeat compositions than they had previously recorded. It is also the band's first album to feature drummer Mike Malinin. Dizzy up the Girl - Goo Goo Dolls. The Rob Cavallo-produced album sold over 4. 2 million copies according to Nielsen Music and produced five singles, of which there are two legitimate contenders for the song: Iris, the orchestral magnum opus, and Slide, the luminous jangle-rocker with Benmont Tench from Tom Petty and the motherfuckin' Heartbreakers guiding its bridge home with a sublime keyboard masterstroke. Like the latter-day 'Mats, they weren't adverse to cleaning up their sound a little bit, but once they had a hit, they were happy to jump headfirst into the mainstream, cleaning up their rockers until they shone and embracing acoustic power ballads instead of shunning them. In fact, Iris - their contribution to the City of Angels soundtrack and lead single for their sixth album, Dizzy Up the Girl - is a virtual rewrite of Name. The Goo Goo Dolls' mainstream sound is a much more mature, polished and overall enjoyable listen than the group's early sound. While this sound will completely throw off listeners who enjoyed the group's early sound, for those who jumped on the bandwagon with Name or Iris, this record is a very worthy choice. As you would expect from a pop-rock record, it's the singles that shine on this album and there is really nothing on this album that tops any of the five singles. The album also does suffer from filler tracks such as JanuaryRelated to The Goo Goo Dolls - Dizzy Up The Girl
