From Here We Go Sublime is the debut studio album by Swedish electronic music producer Axel Willner under his alias The Field, released by Kompakt on 26 March 2007. From Here We Go Sublime consists primarily of tracks recorded by Willner as the Field between 2004 and 2006, though the album also includes tracks produced before this period, one of which was originally recorded under a different alias. Willner's production style is sample-based, employing cut-up and resequenced manipulations of snippets. A few songs into From Here We Go Sublime, the Field formula becomes fairly clear: the evocative ambience of GasAll and the cut-up glitch style of Akufen, plus the propulsion, invariance, and melody of trance - the sum of these parts then presented with the minimal elegance that is the trademark of Kompakt. The Field real name Alex Willner is a watchmaker, an ardent horologist of techno who spends his days deconstructing samples and arranging them into unrecognizable forms. His mastery of time, or just how long a sound should continue, is always on full display four-on-the-floor beats ride patiently in the background while various synths and snippets of sound hover in and out of the mix. First of all, let's get it out of the way: From Here We Go Sublime is repetitive. If you are easily bored and need music that constantly changes, then this album probably isn't for you. Many of the changes here are often subtle, such as an extra click in a beat or a bass line gradually fading into the mix. Combining elements of the best ambient music with the emotive nostalgia and accessibility of Fennesz's Endless Summer and Boards of Canada, From Here We Go Sublime may wind up 2007's most luxuriant electronic record. That kind of pared-down sound-sculpting is everywhere in continental European electronic music these days, but rarely is it as instantly enveloping or as comforting as the Field's debut, From Here We Go Sublime. The album recalls Kaito, another artist on the German label with one great idea, likewise pushing wistfulness and simplicity to the brinkRelated to The Field - From Here We Go Sublime
