The highlight for me is by far a band called The Dirty Pins. Brilliantly, their track is called 'I Feel So Milton Keynes', and is a raggedly charming if slightly lairy gutter punk gem that calls to mind lost seventies new-wavers The Only Ones. The lyrics are a genius mix of melancholy ("in eighteen months I've smiled only once") and hilarious sarcasm- that Milton Keynes is used as a metaphor for feeling shit is quite funny, although I can't really comment as I've never been there. to top it all, their album is called 'Deaf To The Middle Class' - what more could you want?

"Discovered a new band from London - The Dirty Pins. Can sense a lot of influences ranging from the Buzzcocks, The Libs, BShambles, Clash in them... this particular song "'I Feel So Milton Keynes' is very impressive. Would be wise to take note of them."

"The new band (as in new band I've listened to) that really stood out to me are The Dirty Pins, 'What Shall We Do When The Discos Over' sounds like The 'modern day' Clash, the singer has got me as soon as he begins - fantastic! The other track 'I Feel So Milton Keynes' is another reminder of their influences - put together brilliantly. I really like this band - see what you think?"

"The Dirty Pins is the brainchild of a one David Shaw: A seemingly disillusioned working class man originally hailing from South Yorkshire and a self-confessed regular at the dole queue. Starting out as solo, in New Cross he tells his tales of unemployment and misery, accompanied by The Jam-inspired punk guitar strummings: I Feel So Milton Keynes being the best example. He has since been developing the band, adding a drummer and bassist. The Dirty Pins are now currently a four-piece, playing numerous bigger shows across London, not to mention being on the Criminal Records compilation. Right now, New Deal will be a thing of the past for them.

"John Peel once said it gave him great pleasure to imagine people smashing their furniture to the records he played and I felt the same when I played the swelling I Feel So Milton Keynes by The Dirty Pins."

"I might compare the ragged round the edges cockney charms of The Dirty Pins' DIY punk malarkey to The Libertines, were it not for the fact that this absolutely pisses over anything the crack head and the other one ever produced in their thankfully brief time together.

'I Feel So Milton Keynes' perfectly encapsulates feelings of lethargy, disillusionment and depression in one insightful metaphor, and backs it up with Buzzcocks-y guitars and vocals that ramble wonderfully around them. this EP is sprinkled throughout with lyrical nuggets, none more so than on final track 'Spastic Society', which brings to mind sadly missed detroit garage punkas The Pattern in its chugging guitars and yelped vocals, while 'What Shall We Do When The Disco's Over?' attempts a Beatles-style 'aah, aah, aaaaah' intro before developing into a lilting lament for lost youth.

There's plenty of potential on show here, a mixture of wit and charisma that carries what could easily have been just another London punk band above the teeming masses of mediocrity that seem to have sprung up in the wake of the capital's DIY revolution."
