Short intro
Electric is the third album by British rock band The Cult, released in 1987. It was the follow-up to their commercial breakthrough Love. The album equalled its predecessor's chart placing by peaking at number four in the UK but exceeded its chart residency, spending a total of 27 weeks on the chart the most successful run for an album by The Cult. The album marked a deliberate stylistic change in the band's sound from gothic rock to more traditional hard rock. Rick Rubin, the producer on Electric. The Cult and the Electric Interview. James Praesto: Somebody called this album by The Cult akin to ACDC fan fiction , and its easy to see and hear the resemblance in sound and drive however, I would rather call it a love letter to that rocknroll blueprint than anything else. Sure, the guitars could be a tad louder in the mix, and I wish the bass came to the forefront a little more, but the drum sound would make Phil Rudd proud. A remix probably wouldnt hurt, but after the soaking wet reverberations of the 80s, with its synthetic and often bombastic sound, it was refreshing to hear bands get the Rubin treatment. Recordings for that album resulted in 12 tracks cut with Love producer Steve Brown at Manor Studios in Oxfordshire, later known, fittingly enough, as the Manor Sessions and belatedly released in 2013 as the Electric-Peace album. But way back in 1986, these efforts only convinced the Cult's core trio of singer Ian Astbury, guitarist Billy Duffy and bassist Jamie Stewart to look for a new producer. According to the singer, in a 2013 interview with Rolling Stone , When we first met, I was a 23-year-old crazy kid. Songs in album The Cult - The Electric Mixes 1989.
