Atmospheric, powerful, and highly enjoyable. Read more. The Chieftains have had a hand in more than one film score, and they're all worthwhile to listen to and to own, from Treasure Island to The Grey Fox to this one, recorded for a European television series based on the Thomas Flanagan novel. Three selections from the soundtrack are available on another release, Reel Music, which also features other Chieftains movie music. The Year of the French was a mini-series produced by the Raidió Teilifís Éireann in 1982. The soundtrack is significant for a couple of reasons. It was RTE Concert Orchestra: One of the two full-time professional radio orchestras in Ireland that are part of RTE, the national broadcasting station. Since its formation as the Radio Eireann Light Orchestra in 1948, the RTE Concert Orchestra, has grown from a small studio-based recording group to become an active 45-strong orchestra performing over eighty concerts annually. It is part of RTE Performing Groups. The orchestra performs classical, popular and big band evening and lunchtime concerts, covering a range of music from baroque to contemporary.
