Love Is All We Have to Give is the second album by Checkmates, Ltd. and was released in 1969. It reached 178 on the Billboard Top LPs chart. The album featured four singles: Black Pearl, which reached 8 on the R&B chart and 13 on the Billboard Hot 100, Proud Mary, which reached 69 on the Billboard Hot 100, and Love Is All I Have to Give which reached 65 on the Billboard Hot 100, and I Keep Forgettin', which did not chart on the pop chart. Proud Mary John Fogerty 4:30. Black Pearl is one of the great Phil Spector productions, a phenomenal song with his extraordinary sound. That being said, it would be easy to try to dismiss this excellent album and focus just on the hit. That's the wonderful paradox of Love Is All We Have to Give by the Checkmates, Ltd. and Sonny Charles. Charles only re-scratched the Top 40 once and that in 1983, but it is this album which showcases his major voice. The Leiber & Stoller composition I Keep Forgettin' has that sound from the 1966 Billy Stewart hit version of Gershwin's Summer. Album 1969 6 Songs. Love Is All I Have to Give.
