Pod is the debut album by American alternative rock band the Breeders, released by 4AD records on May 29, 1990. Engineered by Steve Albini, the album features band leader Kim Deal on vocals and guitar, Josephine Wiggs on bass, Britt Walford on drums, and Tanya Donelly on guitar. Albini's production prioritized sound over technical accomplishment the final takes favor the band's spontaneous live in studio performances. Pod The Breeders album. Just better. For US distribution, 4AD originally licensed it to Rough Trade, which later went bankrupt in 1992, its American distribution was picked up by Elektra Records. The album peaked at number 22 in the UK and number 73 in the Netherlands. On their 1990 debut album Pod, the Breeders - led by the Pixies' Kim Deal and Throwing Muses' Tanya Donelly - prove that they have more potential, and more fun, than the average side project. In fact, thanks to the album's creative songwriting, immediate production courtesy of Surfer Rosa producer Steve Albini, and clever arrangements, Pod is a fresher and more successful work than the Pixies' Bossanova and the Muses' Hunkpapa, their main projects' releases from around that time. Pod is a superb and uncompromising record that not only showcases Kim's distinctive talent, but also further emphasizes how much Pixies missed out on by not allowing her much songwriting space later on. However, what stands out the most in The Breeders' debut album Pod is that, even if individually mostly every song sounds excellent, together they seem to gain an even greater strength. The flow of the album sounds so effortlessly tremendous that it's hard not to enjoy even tiny bits of Pod.
