Georgie H I can see this becoming another treasured TBD album, along with Silenced and Spanners particular favourites of mine. Good work guys . Album 2013 16 Songs. More By The Black Dog. The active release schedule maintained by Ken Downie, Martin Dust, and Richard Dust across 2008-2011 stalled for 2012, but it resumed in 2013. The Return Ov Bleep and series of Darkhous EPs preceded this hour-length album, titled after a synonym - such a great Sheffield word, as stated in the group's press missive - for trinkets or knick-knacks. Listen free to The Black Dog Tranklements Alien Boys, Bolt No. 6 and more. 16 tracks 64:38. The Black Dog have been gathering their thoughts, passions and anger, reflecting it into their music, sometimes as part of a larger picture or concept, sometimes just focusing on one subject. Tranklements is such a great Sheffield word, it means a collection of objects, often precious to the owner. Everyone has a collection of Tranklements somewhere These are ours. Tranklements is a body of work created as 16 unique and individual tracks. Each one is its own little object, something weve created. The kick drum returns for Cult Mentality, a smoother piece of techno, all complementary chords, but more angular melodies slide into the organ-like tones of Hymn for SoYo. Each successive album since the Black Dog's rebirth in 2005 has been less interesting. Silenced was a great work of moody electronica. But now it seems like he just keeps making the same soulless, uninspired techno. The Black Dog. Critic Score. Tranklements, 2013. Alien Boys, 06:04. Atavistic Resurgence, 05:26. Bolt 11b, 00:44. Considering the Black Dog's immense volume of output over the previous few years, it's remarkable that the group's attention to detail and uniquely stern sound remains. And yet, for all the output that preceded it, Tranklements isn't merely another Black Dog album. Read full review. For TRANKLEMENTS, The Black Dog returns to Dust Science, for good, it seems, as the soft breaks of “Alien Boys” carries a funky, yet distant, electro before “Atavistic Resurgence” launches into an interstellar pattering with stabs of industrial grit. The kick drum returns for “Cult Mentality,” a smoother piece of techno, all complementary chords, but more angular melodies slide into the organ-like tones of “Hymn for SoYo.” “Pray Crash I” returns to the breaks, this time faster and more foreboding, as its sibling track, “Pray Crash II” goes full-on towards the floor, sharing the same DNA in a vocal sample. “Internal Collapse” allows for a brief respite, before the crisper “First Cut” cuts through with its sharp beat, and “Death Bingo” has a similar cleanness in its beeps and breaks. “Mind Object” twinkles a little more, even as it starts to decay into the alien drift of the closer, “Spatchka.” There’s a confidence and surety in this album, one that’s borne out by years of experience.
