Short intro

Carl and the Passions So Tough is the 18th studio album by American rock band the Beach Boys, released on May 15, 1972. The album is frequently considered a transitional album for the band, with the addition of Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar on guitar and drums, respectively, and long-time member Bruce Johnston departing during its initial sessions. The initial American pressings of the album included the band's 1966 studio album Pet Sounds as a bonus record. It has been speculated that Carl and. Carl & The Passions - So Tough - The Beach Boys. Holland is the 19th studio album by the American rock group the Beach Boys, released on January 8, 1973. Self-produced by the band, the album peaked at number 36 in the US and number 20 in the UK. The album is the second of two studio recordings to feature Blondie Chaplin and Ricky Fataar, who joined the band the previous year to record Carl and the Passions So Tough. It is also the third and final studio album created under the management of Jack Rieley. Kicking off with the rough Carl Wilson rocker You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone, Carl and the Passions - So Tough cycles through all manner of roots-based rock Fataar and Chaplin lead the band through a bluesy number Here She Comes and a country song complete with steel guitar Hold On Dear Brother. What and the Passions - So Tough is the 18th studio album by the Beach Boys, released on May 15, 1972. It is the first of two albums to feature Ricky Fataar and Blondie Chaplin. Bruce Johnston quit the band during the album's initial sessions, and would not return as a band member until L. The Beach Boys were spinning wildly into total irrelevance by the early 70's despite putting out excellent albums like Surf's up and the critically acclaimed Sunflower which only reached 151 on the album charts. The large scale work of the album is the California Saga, and even in Holland the Beach Boys are going to write about California because they are, after all, the Beach Boys. Actually, Mike Love had composed Big Sur earlier, but it's seamlessly worked in with a beautiful countryish arrangement evocative of Harvest with distant guitars and close up harmonica, very warm and glowing and a sincere tribute to its title. And so goes the opening stanza of the Beach Boys You Need a MessAnd so goes the opening stanza of the Beach Boys You Need a Mess. So Tough was doomed from the start, stalling at 50 on the Billboard Pop Albums chart. In the UK, the public still appreciated the bands musical output, and it reached 25 there. Taking a nod from the album sleeve of Carl and the Passions - So Tough is the German single cover of the Beach Boys You Need a Mess of Help to Stand Alone bw Dennis Wilsons Cuddle Up , released on May 15, 1972. The rocker criminally had no impact with the record buying public. Carl and the Passions is excellent. Had the LP. for made such an impression on lovers out yourself to this wonderful stuff. It is unusual musically than anything else the Beach Boys have it shows the depth of love they must have felt themselves when they sang it

Carl & The Passions "So Tough" is to me just a very good rock and roll with soul album. I don't know that I really consider this a Beach Boys record per say. I have snuck it on the the stereo many times when with friends and they are shocked when I tell them who it actually is. Friends who are not really BB fans have actually gone out and bought it; only to become BB fans. Good ole rock and roll 70's style.
