Short intro

The Band is the second studio album by the Band, released on September 22, 1969. It is also known as The Brown Album. According to Rob Bowman's liner notes for the 2000 reissue, The Band has been viewed as a concept album, with the songs focusing on people, places and traditions associated with an older version of Americana. Thus, the songs on this album draw on historic themes for The Night They Drove Old Dixie Down, King Harvest Has Surely Come and Jawbone which was composed in the unusual. Time was tight, so a live album was in order: Live And Dangerous was the snarling result, a document of a band that took no prisoners even on mellower tracks like Dancing In The Moonlight. A live recording that features real danger. When U2 played Red Rocks Amphitheatre outside Denver on June 5, 1983, the weather was so terrible that less than half the sold out crowd showed up, and both opening acts the Alarm and Divinyls canceled over safety concerns. That did nothing to deter U2 and especially Bono. But the real lightning came from this live album, concert film and the fog-shrouded Sunday Bloody Sunday music video. Real Estate, an indie rock band, was at The New York Times headquarters on Tuesday, March 21, to perform songs and answer audience questions. This page is about the music of Hank Williams, and other old-time Country. The Band were anti almost everything that was happening in music at the time - and the result is two of the greatest albums in the rock canon, their 1968 debut, Music From Big Pink, and this, the self-titled 1969 follow-up, often nicknamed The Brown Album. Often viewed as a companion to its predecessor, The Band is actually quite different: The influence of Dylan, who wrote or cowrote three songs on the debut, had been superseded by Robertson, and with songs like Up on Cripple Creek, Rag Mama Rag and Rockin Chair, its a much funkier, more earthbound and rock-oriented than the ethereal Big Pink. It was 'old time' reflective music carefully considered and put through The Band's musical blender to come out in such a way as to make one feel they were there - whether it was via The American Civil War for The Night They Drive Old Dixie Down a young boy recalling the wisdom of his grandfather on Rick Danko's When You Awake. Probably my favourite album ever. Remaster is superb, and you get the unheard Woodstock set. I think this is the 8th time I've bought this. Read more. I started by listening to my old CD and comparing it to the new. Even I can hear the difference. Its like wiping the mist off the window. The Band, The Band 1969 Capitol. Bob Dylans infamous acolytes really came into their own in 1969 when they cemented their invention of country-rock, predated lo-fi by three decades, and introduced a rustic, ironically reactionary take on Southern mores that would later fire many an imagination. In 1959, twenty years before hip-hop provided a real voice for voiceless African-Americans, Miles Davis stood proud. Oasis breakthrough album claimed Britpop for the lads and primed the band for Knebworth with such timeless anthems as Wonderwall and Dont Look Back In Anger

Maybe unofficial and I'm sure there is better sound quality live recordings out there, but this legendary concert at the Hollywood Bowl shows the Band at it's best with crazy versions of many classic tracks. A must have for the fans but damned hard to find !
