The B-52's is the debut album by the Athens, Georgia-based new wave band the B-52's. The kitschy lyrics and mood, and the hook-laden harmonies helped establish a fanbase for the band, who went on to release several chart-topping singles. The B-52's peaked at number 59 on the Billboard 200, and Rock Lobster reached number 56 on the Billboard Hot 100. In 2003, the television network VH1 named The B-52's the 99th greatest album of. While Wild Planet is not the rarefied wonder their first platter is, it's still darn good. The songs here are generally faster, tighter, and punchier than previously, though production values are not as wonderfully quirky and detailed fewer songs here are as over-the-top crazy as the first album's Rock Lobster or 52 Girls. One of the best albums to come out of 1980. Not to mention the other greats from that year... Peter Gabriel 3, Signing Off, Uprising, Empty Glass, Remain in Light, Permanent Waves, Panorama, Freedom of Choice, Seventeen Seconds, Gaucho, Duran Duran 1st, Vienna, Drama, Zenyatta Mondatta, Scary Monsters, Flesh and Blood, Back in Black, Woman and Children First, Closer....any missing??

The Pretenders first album should be on that list. I'm also fond of Toots & the Maytals Live album. But what I would give to have been bopping around Athens, GA at in the 80's.

Good follow-up, but nobody - I mean nobody - does filler like the B's.
