Short intro

Sixteen Tons - Tennessee Ernie Ford. Лента с персональными рекомендациями и музыкальными новинками, радио, подборки на любой вкус, удобное управление своей. Tennessee Ernie Ford recorded Sixteen Tons in 1955 as the B-side of his cover of the Moon Mullican standard You Don't Have to Be a Baby to Cry. With Ford's snapping fingers and a unique clarinet-driven pop arrangement, it quickly became a million seller. It hit Billboard's country music chart in November and held the No. 1 position for ten weeks, then crossed over and held the number 1 position on the pop music chart for eight weeks, besting the competing version by Johnny Desmond. Though named after Tennessee Ernie Ford's biggest hit, Sixteen Tons was released five years after the single was a hit. The large gap of time between the release of the single and album is inconsequential - in essence, the album is a compilation of Ford's greatest hits of the '50s, containing not only the title track, but also Mule Train, The Cry of the Wild Goose, and The Shot Gun Boogie. Though more comprehensive compilations of Ford's work were later released, Sixteen Tons remains an entertaining listen from start to finish in fact,. Sixteen Tons. Tennessee Ernie Ford. Release Date. April 10, 1955. You load sixteen tons, what do you get Another day older and deeper in debt Saint Peter don't you call me, 'cause I can't go I owe my soul to the company store. If you see me comin' better step aside A lot of men didn't, a lot of men died One fist of iron, the other of steel If the right one don't getcha then the left one will. Album: Sixteen Tons 1955. Charted: 1 1. Get the Sheet Music License This Song . According to the book 1000 UK 1 Hits by Jon Kutner and Spencer Leigh, Tennessee Ernie Ford was so busy with a five-day-a-week daytime show that he fell behind with his recording commitments for Capitol Records. He recalled, Capitol told me I'd be in breach of contract if I didn't record soon, but I was always thumbing through songbooks looking for music. I liked Merle Travis' songbook. He'd lived in the coal mining community, and my grandfather and my uncle had mined coal. I showed 'Sixteen Tons' to my conductor as I liked it very much.
