Tears For Fears Format: Audio CD. Tears For Fears was more about the sound to me than the lyrics anyway, which I usually had to see printed out to fully understand. The sound of Tears For Fears is usually very spacious, full of reverb, the musical equivalent of Big Sky Country. This is true whether its dark and deep like Shout or high and straining for the heavens like Head Over Heels. Its rare that an album this creative is as popular as Songs From the Big Chair. It was the album of the summer in 1985, sold five million copies in the U. alone and about ten million CD was remastered in 2014 and sounds great. And in the loping, percolating Everybody Wants to Rule the World, Tears for Fears perfectly captured the zeitgeist of the mid-'80s while impossibly managing to also create a dreamy, timeless pop classic. Songs from the Big Chair is one of the finest statements of the decade. Tears for Fears second album is the one sound of pop-rock in the 80s. Its personal psychology, meticulous compositions, and world-sized choruses evoked the loss of control in an overwhelming era. No track on Songs From the Big Chair exemplifies this free-roaming, tessellating approach more than its opener, the No. 1 single Shout. As Hughes told RBMA, set up a little drum box and a little synthesizer with a bass tone. He pressed the button on the drum box, and he programmed this little beat and it had these little chimey bells and a clapping drum beat. Album 1985 8 Songs.
