Hit Self-Destruct. Maybe because it first appeared on the tiny Australian label Hippy Knight and not Superchunk's own Merge imprint, the Hit Self-Destruct EP never garnered much attention, but the marquee cut, Cadmium, is as good as anything on the preceding No Pocky for Kitty album - high praise indeed. Juxtaposing dark, churning electric guitar riffs alongside bright acoustic strumming, Cadmium burns like a slow fuse, in stark contrast with the vast majority of the band's material from the same era.
