MY BROTHER THE WIND, released by Sun Ra in 1970 but recorded in 1969 is one of several albums that showcase Sun Ra's initial reckonings with the then-recently introduced Moog synthesizer. Within a few years this chapter of Ra's legacy included My Brother the Wind Vol. 2, The Night of the Purple Moon, Space Probe, and The Solar-Myth Approach, Vol. The original My Brother the Wind LP on Saturn catalog 521 featured four tracks, properly sequenced here on as tracks 14. Sun Ra & His Arkestra. My Brother the Wind, Vol. 1 Expanded, Remastered. My Brother the Wind is actually more a companion piece to Night of the Purple Moon than its Vol. 2 namesake. Ra plays two miniMoogs instead of miniMoog and Rocksichord, with Danny Davis on alto and clarinet and John Gilmore on drums. But while the focus on Night of the Purple Moon was on composed numbers, My Brother the Wind is a much freer session. The title cut is just Ra on his two miniMoogs and Gilmore on drums.
