The album was a successful debut for the band, featuring the songs Born to Be Wild, as well as The Pusher, both of which were used in the 1969 film Easy Rider. But Rest in Peace was an almost perfect rock album, & we listened to it all the time. There isn't a clunker on it: every song has that Desperation feel to it. Except for maybe Don't Step on the Grass, Sam, you could take every song here & turn it into a C&W hit. Steppenwolf was basically a C&W band with thick electric guitars. John Kay was one of the few rock singers that sounded genuinely threatening: listen to The Ostrich. Later, he tried real C&W with stinging versions of I'm Movin' On & You Win Again.
