Stephen O'Malley, the dark lord of drone himself, returns to our charts with a devilishly tenebrous extended EP that is not for the faint of heart. Out through the ever-impressive iDEAL Recordings, this is true drone at its most poignant none of that pussy seaside gear they push down in the balearics . The album, titled Fuck Fundamentalist Pigs captures live recordings from a series of shows OMalley played in Norway immediately following the Charlie Hebdo terrorist attacks in Paris OMalleys home of eight years last January. The album is the first part of a trilogy that was intended to come out throughout 2016, but the guitarist pushed for this first volumes early release after the terrorist attacks on Paris, last month. All profits from the album will go to the French Red Cross. In a statement, OMalley explained the blunt title was inspired by foundational black metal band Darkthrone. According to Stephen OMalley, who co-founded the duo with Greg Anderson in the late 1990s, the purpose of building this particular framework around their record was not to espouse any particular agenda, but to open up new dialogue, new perceptions. Sunn O is not a political band and I dont think its meant to be transformed into a political band, he said, but Sunn O is a platform where one can explore a range of different ideas and not have to be bound by them, or by ideas strictly defined by the potential that exists either, musically or otherwise. Soon after our conversation, OMalley released a solo album, Fuck Fundamentalist Pigs
