They originally formed at Handsworth Wood Boys School, and were composed of David Hinds lead vocals, guitar, Basil Gabbidon lead guitar, vocals, and Ronald McQueen bass along with Basil's brother Colin briefly on drums and Michael Riley vocals, percussion.
