The first single released was Actor out of Work that April. Annie Clark was influenced by scores to films by Disney and Woody Allen. To prevent writer's block, Clark watched films without the sound and composed music for her favorite scenes. Vincent is the eponymous fourth studio album by American musician St. It was released on February 24, 2014, in the United Kingdom and a day later in the United States, through Loma Vista Recordings and Republic Records. Produced by John Congleton, it features collaborations with Sharon Jones & The Dap-Kings drummer Homer Steinweiss and Midlake drummer McKenzie Smith. It was a huge achievement that still barely hinted at what was to come. When revisiting the major albums of 2009, the year begins to look like an inflection point. Vincent - Actor review: Actor shows the potential and talent that St. Vincent ultimately holds. The mystique of Actor can all begin with The Strangers. A tidy and fitting opening track which transforms from cute to daring before angelic hymns whisk away the beautiful mess created. The Strangers and Actor as a whole may not live up to the pop-sensibilities found in Now Now from Marry Me per se, but the rich and harmonious sound is still there. Vincent's Annie Clark is a unique talent. She blends rock, jazz, electronic, and classical touches together so seamlessly that it doesn't seem remarkable, and as lovely as her voice and music can be, she's too strange and too smart to be merely winsome. It's very pretty and kind of whimsical and It reminds me of some sort of odd Dr. Seuss like magical world. Her debut had a similar aesthetic but it came of as sort of obnoxious in parts, but overall that was still a very cool album, just not quite as ambitious as later efforts
