The mighty SPC ECO (space echo) return with more gorgeousness.
Having recently signed to new record label XD Records, this is their first release so far...

The angelic, pure voice of Rose Berlin, layers of Joey Levinson guitar sonics and throbbing bass, beats and bleeps of Dean Garcia are back to save us from a nasty year of bland nothingness in the 2011 music world! Hooray!

Kicking off with 'Gone' the E.P. gets off to a strong start with a full-on guitar assault that (yes and I have to say it!) is reminiscent of Dean Garcia's previous work with Curve.

'Silo Too High' follows and switches the mood to more ambient and gentle mode. The washes of guitar and sparse breathy vocal conjure up an otherworldly feel, all in all, quite beautiful. This is the track I personally quickly return to time and time again.

E. P. title track, 'Big Fat World', follows this with a return to more conventional indie dream pop with a strong song and for me probably one of the best vocals Rose Berlin has sung to date. Sublime.

'Forever Now' follows with a return to more ambient sonic territory, bleeps and waves of atmosphere ebb and flow as Rose's voice glides in with an almost stream of conciousness delaration of love to someone?

Steeped in backwards guitar and emotion, 'Here I Am' will steal your heart with another pristine beautiful Rose vocal, an ode to lost love?? amazing.

'Feels Like Flying' FASTEN YOUR SEATBELTS, EXTINGUISH ALL CIGARETTES, TURN OFF ALL ELECTRONIC DEVICES! no, seriously, prepare for a 7 minute trip somewhere else as SPC ECO take us beyond the boundries of mere old school shoegaze magic. Yep, the boxes are ticked with the My Bloody Valentine guitar sonics and the crystal clear clarity of Rose's voice which shines through the guitar wall of sound with the chants of 'save me' and 'feels like flying' to then fade into the distance at the end as if disappearing skyward. Epic.

Last up, XD Labelmate (Crying Vessel) produces a remix of first track 'Gone' and nicely adds glitchy electronics and sinister synth melodies to the mix to great effect. We need more remixes like this as this one compliments the original track elements nicely.

Aaahhhh, just feeling refreshed having listened to this E.P. again as I write the review. It is a breath of fresh air for the ears!!
An essential for any fan of Curve, shoegaze, indie or those just wanting a intriguing change from the mainstream monotony.
