Spanky Wilson had recorded a few albums for other labels before joining the Westbound label for a while in the mid-'70s, but her sole LP for the company, Specialty of the House, was in a more straightforward soul bag than her previous efforts. Though traces of the more jazz-pop-oriented material of her past could be heard in some of her phrasing, largely this was an average if accomplished period soul record, conscientiously arranged but avoiding excess gloss.
