Short intro
Pygmalion is the third studio album by English rock band Slowdive, released on 6 February 1995 by record label Creation. It was the final Slowdive album to be released before the band disbanded in 1995. A departure from their previous two albums, Pygmalion incorporated a more experimental sound tilted towards ambient electronic music, with sparse, atmospheric arrangements. All compositions were by Neil Halstead. Lyrics on tracks Miranda and Visions of LA were by Rachel Goswell. Pygmalion is Slowdive's third album, released on February 6th, 1995. Pygmalion is widely recognized as a severe departure from the band's previous work. The album has a much more bleak and damaged approach than Just For a Day or Souvlaki. On this album Slowdive uses a wide array of different electronic effects and a heavier focus on clean guitar tones. The cover illustration features imagery from Rainer Wehinger's graphic notation for György Ligeti's work Artikulation 1958. Pygmalion is Slowdives third studio album. It was released in 1995 through record label Creation. It was their last album before they disbanded in 1995. It is generally preceived that the album was the bands most experimental, incorporating, for example, ambient electronic music with minimal atmospheric arrangements. Pygmalion Q&A. Album 1995 9 Songs. For Pygmalion, the band strips the sound down to its studs, creating sparse atmospheres that allow for great contemplation. The 10-minute opening masterwork Rutti brings Neil Halstead's warm and imagistic vocals to the forefront. Crazy for You turns up the ambience, with samples and loops that create a shimmering but austere for Slowdive façade this is further explored with the abstract Trellisaze and the subtle tone poem. Pygmalion is the most abstract of Slowdive's albums after moving from the sugary pop of Just for a Day to the more mature and more experimental Souvlaki, the band began to incorporate even more elements of ambient electronica - drum loops, samples, and songs even less tangible than on previous releases. Dropped by a Gallagher-fixated McGee shortly after this records release, Slowdive morphed soon afterwards into Mojave 3. But its the soft-focus mist of Pygmalion that remains Halstead and Goswells masterpiece. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Licence.
