The band is composed of vocalist Bret Constantino, guitarists Matt Holliman and Evan Reiss, and drummer Brian Tice. The band has released five studio albums to date, the most recent of which, Private Tales, was released in June 2017. Sleepy Sun formed as Mania in 2005 at UC Santa Cruz by students Bret Constantino, Matt Holliman, Evan Reiss, Brice Tice and original bass player Hubert Guy. San Francisco's Sleepy Sun's 2010 Sophomore album Fever released by ATP Recordings. This is the final album to include Rachel Fannan's vocals as she departed the group shortly after the album's release. The band of brothers known far and wide as Sleepy Sun don't sit still for long. Though they remain real and spiritual citizens of the Northern California hive that birthed the band in the latter half of the last decade, Sleepy Sun is a rambling band- a certifiably vagabond unit that built a reputation among American and European audiences as fine-tuned, ironclad locomotive and candy sweet heavy pop machine. Members owning this album1. Sleepy Sun - Fever review: Heard it stoned. I felt like I was floating on ice. This album has an extremely varied sound A strange blend of progressive rock. But to limit it to just that is to underline the creativity this album has. More like a mixture of progressive, folk, psychedelia, shoegaze, blues and acoustic. The album starts with some loud guitar distortion, from the opening track Marina. It assembles a rocking sound, sort of like a Western take on Middle Eastern rock. But as soon as the tempo builds up, it breaks down in a sweet melody, complete with acoustic guitar and lays out some nice vocal work. Sleepy Sun's second LP exaggerates the problems of its predecessor by pushing nothing too far or too hard. Sandstorm Woman, the 10-minute closing epic, feels like little more than the middle-aged house band at your neighborhood biker bar coming down from a set-break joint. The big rock outro- all sweaty frontman glossolalia, guitar spirals, harmonica howls, and stretched drum rolls- gradually slows its tempo and restrains its roar, resolving into a tidy, diminished coda. Unlike Earthless, Sleep, or any of the dozens of bands who have taken such moments to hell and the moon, Sleepy Sun bring it back to Earth and let it rest. It's the refusal to get too crazy, and it's boring. This is the sound of Sleepy Sun, a six-piece who filter Jack White's dirty blues through the haze of 1960s California. It could all go horribly hippie, of course, but the lack of over indulgence, the tangible thrill in their own ability and the super-sweet voice of Rachel Williams combine to make this the perfect record for summer 2010.
