It was released on 23 February 1979 by record label Virgin. Anti-war themes are a recurring motif in the album. Singer Richard Jobson, a tough son of a miner, had a militaristic quality to his vocals. The bands hummable-if often indecipherable-poetics such as Charles, about a hapless worker in a dystopian factory who literally becomes his job and muscular Kipling-esque yarns of soldiers in plight Melancholy Soldiers, Hope and Glory complemented the big guitars and hard rock arrangements well. The title track from the debut album SCARED TO DANCE Copyright 1979. Of huge importance to Skids fans is that the CD reissue includes the original live B-side to the latter, TV Stars, a song which will mean nothing to anyone who didn't grow up watching British television, but a whole heap to those who did.
