Short intro

With a 35-year track record making Afro-Cuban-based music, Sierra Maestra continue building their legacy in keeping the song form viable and fresh via this extraordinary recording. The band includes five original members from their inception in 1976 Alberto Valdes, Carlos Puisseaux, Eduardo Himley, Luis Barzaga, and Alejandro Suarez, with lead vocalist Jesus Bosco singing most of the tunes. started out in the early 1970s as a group of engineering students wanting to surf the then-fashionable Brazilian wave, but were persuaded to play son instead, and became a hit. Five of the original members remain, and with guaracha son, son montunoa, and some lovely changui riffs the basic sound is the same. Sierra Maestra has played an important role in the last years of Cuban music worldwide. Since its creation, on October 20, 1976, this group called at that time Grupo de Sones de la Facultad de Ingenieria Electrica, in Spanish it devoted itself to listen, first, and to know about the traditional music not so popular by then, considered old by many at that time, above all, by the younger generation. The themes interpreted by this group competed at the Super Top National Hit, and they have participated in different professional festivals, being recognized by prestigious authors who approached them with their works. Yet its an ever-present sense of joy designed to put a smile on your face which defines an album highlighted by regular, uplifting blasts of trumpet and the constant overload of urgent percussion guaranteed to keep the feet tapping. A band who can shrug off personnel upheavals and the vagaries of music fashion to keep developing while holding steadfastly to the traditions and values that drove them in the first place is either lucky or shrewd. Sierra Maestra may just be both. This work is licensed under a Creative Commons Licence. Sierra Maestra: Sonando Ya. 3, 5 stars 3 out of 5 stars. World VillageHarmonia Mundi. Sierra Maestra are Cuba's great survivors. They started out back in the mid-1970s, when a group of engineering students at Havana University decided to form a band reviving Cuba's classic son styles, and since then they have just kept going, mixing old material with new songs in the son tradition, with a dash of up-tempo big band guaracha or Afro-Cuban jazz thrown in. Album starts at BPM, ends at BPM 0, with tempos within the -BPM range. Try refreshing the page if dots are missing. Rumbero Remixes. Son Highlights From Cuba. Criolla Carabalí. Son: Soul Of A Nation.
