Short intro

Junun is a 2015 album by the Israeli composer Shye Ben Tzur, the English composer and Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood, and the Indian ensemble the Rajasthan Express. It was produced by Greenwood and engineered and mixed by Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich. The album recording, in Mehrangarh Fort in Rajasthan, India, is the subject of a documentary by Paul Thomas Anderson, released in October 2015. From the film Junun with Shye Ben Tzur, Jonny Greenwood, and the Rajasthan Express. Directed by Paul Thomas Anderson. Featuring the album track Roked. The 19 musicians and singers who make up the Rajasthan Express are highly skilled at their instruments including horns, percussion instruments such as dholak and bhapang, and stringed instruments sarangi and kamaicha and qawwali choral vocals, playing precise arrangements while maintaining a relaxed, comfortable feel. It might seem curious that Radiohead guitarist and composer Jonny Greenwood ended up collaborating with Shye Ben Tzur and the Rajasthan Express. But they make exultant and warmly human music together. Greenwood's role is subdued even when the riotous music is not. Then there's his backing band: the 19 performers, hailing from distinct Indian-music traditions, who form the Rajasthan Express. And you've also got Radiohead's Jonny Greenwood contributing rhythm guitar, bass, keyboards, and drum-programming to the arrangements. Album 2015 13 Songs. Junun Brass. There Are Birds in the Echo Chamber. 13 Songs, 1 Hour. Released: 13 Nov 2015. 2015 ATC Management, under license to Nonesuch Records Inc. For Junun , Ben Tzur and Greenwood enlisted The Rajasthan Express, a powerhouse supergroup that combines three strains of traditional music not usually performed together: qawwali, Manganiar court music and a big, boisterous Rajasthani brass band. The project has other moving parts, too. In addition to the musicians themselves, longtime Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich was behind the console, while director Paul Thomas Anderson, an old friend and frequent collaborator of Greenwood's, was there to document the whole thing in a short film. Radiohead guitarist Jonny Greenwood and Israeli musician Shye Ben Tzur set up shop in northern Indian palace Mehrangarh Fort. Long-time Radiohead producer Nigel Godrich joined them with the contents of the bands studio. Documented by filmmaker Paul Anderson and together with The Rajasthan Express a collective of 19 Israeli and Rajasthani-Indian musicians they made a collaborative album of traditional Indian music. and what's the point of making vinyl issues so freaking overpriced? go on record industry: piss off the last people who are (in principle) willing to pay money for music on physical objects. see where it leads you.

I agree, though Nonesuch albums have always been expensive. I am not sure why that is. The music on this record however, is absolutely great.

I love the oversized sleeve. And if you look diligently, you will find a resource that sells oversized pvc sleeves...

I agree, how annoying, this nice artwork would have been just as nice in a standard size.
