Short intro
Til the Band Comes In is the sixth studio album by the American solo artist Scott Walker. It was released in December 1970 but failed to chart. Three singles were released from the album. The title track backed with Jean the Machine was released in the Netherlands. Jean the Machine and Thanks For Chicago Mr. James were each released in Japan. No singles were released in the UK. The release is a loose concept album about the inhabitants of a tenement. Songs in album Scott Walker - 'Til The Band Comes In 1970. Scott Walker - Prologue. Scott Walker - The War Is Over Epilogue. The 1990s rediscovery of Scott Walker, hitherto the Pop Star Who Time Forgot, was one of the most gratifying events of the mid-'90s. No man blessed with a voice like that, taste like that, talent like that, should ever have been consigned to the creaky oblivion of oldies radio. But one needs to tread carefully when plunging into the cult. Even at his best, and particularly at his most recent, Walker can be an excruciatingly difficult taste to acquire. The lost, long-out-of-print 'Til the Band Comes In is finally reissued, filling in an important link in one of the more unexpected and fascinating careers in modern pop. Released in 1970, a year after Scott 4, 'Til the Band featured 10 new Walker compositions as many as there were on either Scott 3 or 4, plus five interpretations of other people's songs, all of which were sequenced at the end of the record. Sure the album- disowned by its creator and famously dissed on Pulp's Walker-produced Bad Cover Version- is a concession of sorts, a retreat from the increasingly personal and singular work Walker was producing at the time, but it never deserved to be relegated to a mere footnote. Two copies from two different vendors both had audible scratches and debris pressed in on Side 1, particularly on Joe and Long About Now - two of my favorite tracks. I think the bass is over-exaggerated as well. Anyone have a similar experience or a clean original uk press for comparison . Band's List Experimental Rock Scott Walker 'Til the Band Comes In.
