The Spinning Plates Instrument is an idiophone featuring 9 suspended plates that can rotate freely (x axis), modulating the tones produced when struck. The plates vary in size from 30 cm to 2.5 m long and hang on wire with a bearing and spindle. Each produces a unique set of tones/modulation respective of its dimentions.

As each Plate rotates it modulates the amplitude and pitch of the sound via reproduction of the Doppler effect much like a Leslie speaker.

This release demonstrates each of the 9 plates in series. They are the first batch of recordings taken from the MK1 instrument between January and March 2018 and underpin a forthcoming series of compositions for the instrument.

Scott was the début solo album by Scott Walker, originally released in the United Kingdom on Philips Records in 1967. This feedback system developed in 201819 consists of a 2m steel plate set into a deep hardwood block with mounted transistors and separate external amplification. To play the system, the headstock of the guitar must connect with the plate.
