Emotion is the debut album by Australian singer Samantha Sang released in 1978. It features her biggest hit Emotion. Barry Gibb produced and sang background vocals on the title track Emotion, which he also co-wrote, as well as When Love Is Gone. Sang covered Eric Carmen's 1978 song Change of Heart. Sang re-recorded her 1970 single The Love of a Woman, a song written by Barry and Maurice Gibb. Sang also covered Charade, a song by the Bee Gees from 1974. Emotion was the big platinum hit from January of 1978, but there is much more to this artist and this album than a popular title track. There are three Bee Gees compositions here, The Love Of A Woman, Charade and Emotion. The Bee Gees would put a version of Charade on their boxed set, but it appears here first. She covers the LaiEvansWells tune When Love Is Gone, and that title gets the same production help from producers Barry Gibb, Albhy Galuten and Karl Richardson that brought Emotion so high up the charts. This song was written by Barry and Robin Gibb for the film Saturday Night Fever, but was not used in the movie. It does appear in the 1978 Joan Collins film The Stud. In 2001 Destiny's Child released a cover version of Emotion on their album Survivor, which was mostly comprised of bumping dance numbers about female empowerment. Emotion showcased a different side of the group, and the sensitive ballad was released as a single in October 2001 following the September 11 terrorist attacks in America.
