Electronic composer and innovator Ruth White is considered among today's most gifted arbiters of what is termed the new music. Formally educated in piano and composition she has three degrees from Pennsylvania's Carnegie Tech, Miss White discusses her work in her Southern California studio: I do not have a formal classical electronic background that is self-taught. In fact, I was careful not to study electronics with anyone. Ruth White Flowers of evil. Very weird listening. It is a electronic version of the 60' jigsaw puzzles for free Home. Does anyone know if these Black Mass Rising pressings were sourced from tapes (probably very unlikely, I know) or are needle-drops? If anyone from BMS, in particular, is able to comment please do so
It was conveyed to me from Black Mass Rising via Norman Records in the UK that BMR couldn't use the original tapes because they were damaged beyond repair and therefore unusable. This was after I filed a complaint about the audio quality after receiving it in the mail from Norman Records (where I ordered it from).
ElectroSteak Does anyone know if these Black Mass Rising pressings were sourced from tapes (probably very unlikely, I know) or are needle-drops? If anyone from BMS, in particular, is able to comment please do so These are bootlegs and were never properly licensed. It's just bad quality vinyl rips.
What I heard of a Black Mass Rising re-issue years ago was unbelievable, and not in a good way. Entire words missing here and there, plus other sudden cuts, possibly due to ripping the audio from a VG copy of the original record and running it through some kind of pop removal software. From what I heard, this is because of the original master tape(s) being gone due to damage, thereby making mint or NM copies of the original record far more valuable than people realize. I have a NM copy of the original record, but have only played it once to transfer the audio to a hard drive, and only play WAV files or a CDR copy. I can't stress enough that records like this are important to preserve; not use for casual play or for DJ sets...
