Rudolf Serkin recorded it four times: in 1941 with Bruno Walter and the New York Philharmonic in 1953 with Eugene Ormandy and the Philadelphia Orchestra in 1962 with Leonard Bernstein conducting the New York Philharmonic, and in 1981 with the Boston Symphony Orchestra under Seiji Ozawa. Bernstein recorded a live performance of the concerto in September 1989, shortly before his death, with Krystian Zimerman and the Vienna Philharmonic.
