Short intro
Accelerator is the seventh studio album by Royal Trux. It was originally released on Drag City in 1998. It peaked at number 32 on the UK Independent Albums Chart. 5 stars out of 5, saying, Royal Trux have rarely had both their songwriting and noise under control like they do here, and the result is pure dynamite - possibly their best album to date. In the early 90s, indie rock was essentially synonymous with lo-fi, as upstart artists embraced four-track recording for its cost-effectiveness, DIY egalitarianism, and aesthetic remove from the increasingly commercialized nature of alternative rock. Royal Trux were truly a one of a kind phenomenon that could have only really happened in the 90's, when weirdness and aloofness were considered virtues for a rock band, and anything too popular with the mainstream was viewed as suspect. Those days are gone, obviously, but this album remains as one of the prime cultural artifacts documenting that period of time, and that particular mentality. It is noisy, abrasive and wild, and yet sonically precise and infectious. They hit the nail on the head. This album took a few listens for me to catch on to the catchiness of the album.
