Short intro
Still the Same. Great Rock Classics of Our Time is an album by Rod Stewart, released on 10 October 2006. After four years singing pop standards from the Great American Songbook with great success, this album continues the notion of singing old material, but now in his classic musical genre rock. The album is produced by Clive Davis and John Shanks the former also produced the American Songbook albums and includes rock milestones from the last four decades, including It's a Heartache, Day. Still the Same finds Rod singing 13 songs that more or less could be called rock standards, every one of them hits since Stewart himself was a hitmaker, most of them dating from the '70s, when he was a superstar roughly ten, if you count Love Hurts as a hit for Nazareth, which in this context you should. Not a bad idea at all, at least on paper, since this would seem to return Rod to his strengths: singing rock & roll and pop, influenced by soul and a little bit of country and folk. Unquestionably one of rocks greatest vocalists, Rod Stewart should have titled this album Great Rock Classics of My Time. Most of these Top 40 tunes and others like Dylan's If Not for You were popularized in the early to mid-'70s, when Stewart was entering his rock prime. He's perfect to croon Elvin Bishop's Fooled Around and Fell in Love, soulfully pained on Bonnie Tyler's It's a Heartache, and right in the pocket on the Pretenders' I'll Stand by You. 0 out of 5 stars great classics of our time.
