He wasn't particularly known as a Schumann or Grieg interpreter, but here he is performing their piano concertos with Rafael Kubelik leading the Berlin Philharmonic. This recording is considered by many to be the definitive performances of both, and I can see why. The Grieg A-minor Piano Concerto fares equally well in all regards. The work opens with those magificant chords, and the magic never stops until the final notes have died out.
