Short intro
The Execution of All Things is the second full-length album released by Los Angeles-based indie pop band Rilo Kiley. Expanding on their previous musical sound that mostly incorporated guitars, vocals, percussion and pianos, the album contains heavy electronica sampling mixed into the songs in a rather unusual and displaced-sounding way. Also, unlike their previous tracks which were written in very traditional manners, the lyrics to the songs on Execution are very wordy and read like prose. The Execution Of All Things - Rilo Kiley. Perhaps it's their beaming faces or laid-back, admirable West Coast attitudes. Or maybe it's just their uncanny knack for designing nuanced pop songs and performing them with flair. Maybe it's lead singers Jenny Lewis and Blake Sennet's adorable onstage banter and scissors-sharp wit. Eclectic electric twang meets masterful songwriting on The Execution of All Things, Rilo Kiley's second full-length album. Take Offs and Landings, their 2001 debut on Seattle's infamous Barsuk label, was met with adoration from critics and audiences alike. Rilo Kiley's second studio album. Rilo Kiley's self-titled debut was catchy and smart, but erratic the follow-up, last year's Take Offs and Landings, came off as languid and lazily paced, with undistinguished writing. Now the L. quartet has recorded an album for Omaha, Nebraska's Saddle Creek- home to Bright Eyes and The Faint, among countless others- and it surpasses all of their earlier work: it's a dynamic album with intriguing lyrics, a countryfolk shimmer, and explosive pop moments. You could call The Execution of All Things a feel-good album, but there's enough going on that it rarely sounds like froth. Whichever the case may be, The Execution of All Things finds Rilo Kiley establishing a wonderful balance of beautiful indie rock and subtle country. Several guests are on such instruments as French horn, cello, flute, and accordion, while there's also a boy choir that includes Conor Oberst of Bright Eyes. It all adds brilliantly to Rilo Kiley's passionate and powerful songwriting. With Arms Outstretched evokes a country feel in its lyrics, yet has all the sensibility of indie popRelated to Rilo Kiley - The Execution Of All Things
