Short intro

Spanning the years 1972 to 1990, and including clips from the recent album The King and Eye and fragments of the band's media mercenary work, the program romps through established notions of pop culture, the music industry and the nature of musical invention . The Eyes Scream is a short documentary on The Residents directed by John Sanborn, hosted by Penn & Teller. The documentary covers The Residents whole career from Vileness Fats, 1972 to Cube-e, 1990. The documentary opens with The Residents' then latest music video, 'Don't Be Cruel' from The King & Eye album, then continues with Penn & Teller introducing the band, explaining their connection to the group, and showcasing a video of Penn with The Residents in 1982, promoting The Mole Show. The Residents are an American art collective best known for their avant-garde music and multimedia works. Since their first official release, Meet the Residents 1974, the group has released over sixty albums, numerous music videos and short films, three CD-ROM projects, and ten DVDs. They have undertaken seven major world tours and scored multiple films. Pioneers in exploring the potential of CD-ROM and similar technologies, the Residents have won several awards for their multimedia projects. Narrated by Penn Jillette this is taken of my own VHS - which sadly is crumbling at the 7:20 min mark, the rest seems fine. The Commercial Album is another manifestation of The Residents' whimsical relationship with pop music and their interest in music about music. The album is a collection of forty one-minute commercial songs - their very own personal Top 40, or perhaps a collection of one-minute jingles: the music of commercials. Working from September, 1979, to July, 1980, The Residents used a number of ideas which had cropped up during the recording of Eskimo but were inappropriate for that project. The Commercial Album was the first Residential album to be licenced overseas, and was heavily promoted by the licencees. Cover art, photos and screenshots. The Eyes Scream: A History of the Residents. The Residents have disguised their identities since they emerged from the wreckage of the American hippy movement of the late 60s, rarely communicating with the media and then only via a spokesman called Homer Flynn. Even without the outfits, their bewildering back catalogue is one of wild conceptuality. It includes mangling the Beatles Hey Jude on Third Reich & Roll, a record that satirised the commercial music industry by reimagining it as a Hitlerian endeavour, and Commercial Album, which, with 40 songs all of one minute in length, was anything but
